Statement of Belief

Just as Jesus welcomed all, so does MID. We see these ministries as opportunities to spread the Gospel. Therefore, enrolling families do not have to sign a statement saying that they believe the following statements. They do however need to sign a statement saying they have read the following and understand that everything we do stems from that belief and the desire to bring children up in it.

What do we mean by the term Christian?

We operate with a confessional faith. This means that we are Christ-centered in the reformed protestant tradition while not affiliated with any one denomination. Our belief can best be summed up by a statement used by most protestant churches called the Apostle's Creed:

I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only son, our Lord. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilot, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy *Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

* "holy Catholic Church"- a term used to identify the universal church which is made up of all those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and savior. It does not mean Roman Catholic, Orthodox Catholic or any other particular church.

A Christian School

Mountain Island Day School is a Christian School that strives to provide a Christ-centered environment where young people and adults can grow, learn, serve and love through exposure to the Gospel and time spent in the fellowship of a Christian community.

For that reason, while maintaining a high standard of emphasis on core knowledge MID sets a student's education in the context of service, fellowship, biblical knowledge and worship.
MID is a non-denominational private organization. All teaching, living, and exposure to biblical principles and practices are done in a fashion that strives to be ecumenical and consistent with most mainstream protestant denominations.
Having said that, we acknowledge that individually we do belong to a particular denomination and our world and gospel views are shaped by that. While our teaching staff represent an array of denominational backgrounds Tom and Tammy Winstead are members of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Reverend Winstead has a Masters of Christian Education from the Methodist school, Pfieffer University, has a Masters of Divinity degree from Union Presbyterian Seminary, is a Certified Christian Educator of the PC (USA), and is only the second Presbyterian minister to be ordained as "evangelist" in the history of the Charlotte Presbytery.

Practical Implications:

Our Christian beliefs are meant to be expressed in a way that permeates daily life. They manifest in various ways, some of which are saying a blessing before snacks and meals, opening the school day with a prayer, stocking religiously themed children's books in the library, setting discipline, conversations and class community in the context of Christian fellowship, having weekly chapel, having weekly bible classes, using and listening to music with Christian lyrics, Vacation Bible School and many more.
Our Campus

Mountain Island Day is located in the heart of the Mountain Island Area. In 2008 we were presented the opportunity to lease an existing private school. The 14 acre site is securely nestled in the Coulwood neighborhood and provides many outdoor education and play opportunities such as walking trails, baseball and soccer fields, garden areas and a farm view. The campus' rural setting provides a relaxed tone for the staff and student body. Discipline, dress, intimate class sizes and behavior policies ensure a great foundation for education and fellowship to occur.

MID has leased this space for five years with the intention of building a new facility located in the immediate Mountain Island Area at the end of that time frame.

The facility has 20 large classrooms, a full size high school gymnasium, a large multipurpose room that MID uses as its cafeteria, art/music room, and a computer learning lab.
