How do I apply to Mountain Island Day Community Charter School?

Mountain Island Day Community Charter School is tuition-free Charter School.

  • Families must complete a lottery application for admission

  • Applications will be posted on MIDCCS's website on November 13th through March 6th.

  • Families can obtain a copy of the application from the school office November 13th through March 6th, if they choose to submit the application in person.  The application must be submitted no later than 4:00 pm on March 6th.

  • Our preferred application method is through the online system.  How you choose to apply - online or on paper - does not have any impact on your chances for admission.  Applications must be complete and received on time.

  • The school office is located at 1209 Little Rock Road Charlotte NC, 28214 and available to accept applications from 8:30am-4:00 pm, Monday-Friday in the upper building (Glass entry)

Who is eligible to apply to Mountain Island Day School?

  • MID admits students without regard to disability, race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, or ancestry

  • Applicant's parents/guardians must be residents of North Carolina.

  • MID may refuse admission to any student who has been expelled or suspended from a public school, under North Carolina General Statute (GS115C-391) until the period of suspension or expulsion has expired.

  • MID reserves the right to refuse admission to any student that has not met the academic requirements for the grade level they have applied to enter.

  • Applicants entering Kindergarten must be five years old by August 31st, 2020.

How does admission and the lottery work?

  • MID will accept applications during its open enrollment period November 13th through March 6th.

  • All applications for the coming school year will be assigned an identification number.

  • At the end of the enrollment period, if space allows, all applicants meeting requirements to enroll will be admitted into MIDCCS for the 2020-2021 school year. Any applications received after March 6th will be admitted on a first come, first served basis until all available space is filled.

  • In the event MIDCCS receives more applications than space allows, a public lottery, where numbers are randomly drawn, will be held on March 12th.

    •  Children of MIDCCS Board of Directors and staff members will receive priority enrollment up to 15% of total enrollment.

    • Each student will be assigned an individual lottery number that will be entered into the lottery.  If a students name is drawn that has siblings, all siblings from that family will be enrolled as long as space allows.  If space does not allow siblings will be placed next in line on the sibling wait list for the appropriate grade level.

    • A numbered waiting list is established to fill slots that become available at later dates. Any siblings that MIDCCS was unable to admit during the lottery process will be placed next in line on the sibling waitlist.

    • On March 15th, information about acceptances, and waiting lists will be posted on the school's website. Students will be listed by identification number.

Do I have to come to the lottery?

  • No. MIDCCS will hold a public lottery, and you are welcome to attend. However, we will post the lottery results (the lottery ID numbers of those accepted and waitlisted) on our website by March 15th.

Do siblings get admission priority?

  • If space allows siblings will be admitted.  In the event a class is full, the sibling(s) will be placed on the waitlist behind other siblings.  The sibling waitlist will receive priority over the non-sibling wait list.

What if I am applying for twins or multiples?

  • State law allows one lottery number per family surname to be entered into the lottery for twins and multiple birth siblings. If that number is drawn, all multiple birth siblings of that surname will be admitted.

May we schedule a tour of the school?

  • Due to the community interest in MIDCCS and our priority to maintain an environment conducive to learning, we cannot schedule private tours.  Following the open enrollment period, we will hold an open house to give families the opportunity to visit the school, meet the staff, and learn more about MIDCCS.  Open House dates will be posted at a later date. We have attached a slideshow containing the most commonly asked questions on school tours for parents to review.

Is there a volunteer requirement for parents?

  • We appreciate that many of our families choose to volunteer their time and energy to help support MIDCCS. Since MIDCCS and other charter schools do not receive capital funding from the state or county, we rely on a great deal of help from our families.  We hold a number of community events throughout the school year and to make these possible we ask that each family volunteer two hours each month.

Do you follow the Charlotte Mecklenburg school schedule?

How does my student get to school?

  • Early Beginnings CDC will provide before school, after school, summer camp, and busing options to MIDCCS families. Early Beginnings will offer bus transportation with community stops. The community bus stops will be determined after the open enrollment period and will be based on student enrollment.

Is there a cost to attend MIDCCS?

  • MIDCCS is a tuition-free, public charter school.
